Organization Mission & Vision
The Abortion Fund of Maryland (AFM) works toward a world where everyone can access supportive, compassionate, and stigma-free abortion care and has the autonomy to make decisions about their futures.To advance this vision, AFM provides financial and logistical support to people living in or traveling to Maryland who are seeking abortion care.
The Opportunity
Volunteer drivers are trained to provide rides to and from homes, clinics, travel stations, and hotels to ensure a client can access abortion care. We specifically need volunteers from the following regions: DC Metro Area, Prince George’s County, and Frederick County. However, we welcome applicants from throughout the state of Maryland, except for Baltimore City and Baltimore County, as we have enough support in those areas.
Volunteer Requirements and Expectations
Required qualifications:
- Volunteers must be a Maryland or DC resident
- Have reliable access to a vehicle and up-to-date car insurance
- Be able to commit to up to one year of volunteer service
- Complete volunteer driver training, including a background check
- Support bodily autonomy, abortion access, racial equity, and social justice
We expect all volunteers to:
- Uphold the organization’s mission, values, and policies
- Maintain professionalism and appropriate boundaries
- Protect client confidentiality and privacy
- Drive safely and keep your vehicle clean and ride-ready
- Arrive early and communicate promptly with clients about rides
- Practice trauma-informed, respectful, and nonjudgmental care
- Follow all AFM training, protocols, and staff guidance
- Keep the required supply kit in your vehicle
