Board Recruitment

The Opportunity

We are seeking community-centered leaders to join our Board of Directors and help advance our mission to ensure abortion access in Maryland. Board members provide governance, strategic oversight, fundraising support, and community leadership to help strengthen the organization and advance its impact. We encourage individuals impacted by barriers to abortion access and those with experience in nonprofit leadership, grassroots organizing, and advocacy to apply.

Role of the Board: The Board of Directors is responsible for ensuring the organization’s long-term health, mission alignment, and financial sustainability. Operating under a blended governance and capacity-building model, board members participate in committee work and support the Co-Executive Directors through governance, stewardship, and strategic guidance. The Co-Executive Directors lead the organization’s strategy, operations, and day-to-day management. Board members serve as advisors, ambassadors, and stewards, providing accountability and support while helping strengthen relationships with the communities we serve.

While we deeply value the expertise and perspectives of abortion clinic staff, we do not accept current clinic employees to our Board of Directors due to potential conflicts of interest in organizational decision-making. We welcome applications from former abortion clinic staff and healthcare providers who do not work in abortion care.

Commitment to Equity

We believe those most impacted by barriers to abortion access should help shape the decisions that affect their communities. We strongly encourage applications from people with diverse lived experiences, including people of color, LGBTQIA+ individuals, people with disabilities, people with low-income backgrounds, and people who have sought abortion care.

The application review process will take place between August 1 and September 15, 2026. All candidates can expect an update on their application status by September 30, 2026. If you have any questions about the board position, please email hiring@abortionfundmd.org. We kindly ask that you do not inquire about the status of your application, as our small team has limited capacity to respond.
